RULES & GUIDELINES

DID YOU KNOW POSTER CONTEST 2022

  • This year’s poster contest goal is to educate the community on the benefits of remaining drug and alcohol free. Be creative and show us what good things come from not engaging in unhealthy behaviors.  Why do you want to be a part of the larger population, what do healthy choices result in?  See sample suggestions below to form your message.

  • Deadline for entries: Thursday April 29th 2021.  Rules can also be obtained at www.aldensac.com

  • All entries become the property of the Alden Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition.  Occasionally some information may need to be removed from winning poster for permission rights.

  • Poster must be in a landscape format (think billboard). Margins 2.5 inches on all sides. Clear and concise.  If done by hand make sure print is LARGE, DARK AND LEGIBLE ( We want it to be easy to read and reproduce).

  • Footer section of poster must show a local resource for people who are struggling with mental health and substance abuse. 

  • Preferred method of submission is digital PDF or JPEG.  If hand drawn please add your name to back of the poster.  You may use any medium but must be in a format we are able to reproduce.  Digital entries must be emailed to aldencure@gmail.com & paper copy by deadline.  Full name phone number and email address must accompany all submissions (PLEASE DO NOT PUT YOUR NAME ON THE POSTER).  All other designs should be turned in to Mr. Allen Turton Alden High School,  Mrs. Pautler (St. John’s School).

POSITIVE RESEARCH-JUST A FEW EXAMPLES OF KEY BENEFITS OF REFRAINING DRUG AND ALCOHOL FREE : 

Stronger likelihood of achieving goals in life.             

Decreases anxiety and depressive symptoms.

Increased academic performance.

Increased athletic success.

 

Research your choices where someone can get help.  Must list organization name , service provided, address and phone number. Ie…  (Horizon Health Services, 2563 Union Rd Cheektowaga NY 716-668-7622 Treatment for Mental Health issues and Substance Use Disorders)

2020 ALDEN SCHOOL PREVENTION NEEDS ASSESSMENT SURVEY STATISTICS

 

  • 96.5% of Alden 8th Graders HAVE NOT used Alcohol in the last 30 Days

 

  • 83.7% of Alden 8th Graders HAVE NOT used Alcohol in their Lifetime
     

  • 75% of Alden CSD Students HAVE NOT used Alcohol in the last 30 Days

 

  • 58% of Alden CSD Students HAVE NOT used Alcohol in their lifetime

 

  • 61% of Alden CSD Students Strongly Disapprove of 2 or more Drinks a day

 

  •  72% of Alden CSD Students Believe it is a risk to consume five or more drinks of an alcoholic beverage once or twice a week

 

  •  Average age of Onset (First-time Use) is reported as between 13-14 years of Age in Alden CSD

 

  • 98% of 8th Graders in Alden believe less than 50% have used Alcohol in the last 30 days

 

  • 52% of Alden Students have talked to their Parents about the dangers of Alcohol Use

 

  • Overall youth substance use in Alden has consistently decreased 2014-2018-2020.
